You've all likely seen Anth's proposal to change our lottery draft. He's been doing something similar to this in a couple of other leagues. Last year was the first year that they used the live spinwheel generator to determine the draft order of the non-playoff teams and it actually worked out very well. Anyone interested can watch these proceedings on zoom. Both Glenn and I saw this and I believe Mike might have sat in one of these draft lotteries in Anth's other league.
So what we're looking at changing our draft lottery to is using this spinwheel generator to determine the first six picks in the entry draft. What we need to determine is what the odds should be for the six non-playoff teams.
Here are the choices:
A B
- 14th Place 38% 33%
- 13th Place 24% 25%
- 12th Place 16% 15%
- 11th Place 11% 12%
- 10th Place 7% 9%
- 9th Place 4% 6%
Similar to our old draft lottery system, a team cannot drop more than 2 places in the draft lottery. If your team finished 14th in the regular season, the worse pick you will get is 3rd overall and so on.
We're definitely changing our draft lottery system as the old one was clunky and it was very challenging to determine who actually stood where in the draft lottery order. This new system will provide similar results while at the same time favouring the lower placed teams in deciding the draft order each year.
