There has been some discussion about what to do with the goalie categories in the GMHL. Some wish to keep the league as is from the IFHL and others have proposed dropping Save made by goalies in favour of implementing a minimum of 3 starts per week for your goalies.
If you don't meet the minimum of 3 starts per week, your goalie stats are automatically lost placing you in a 4-0 hole to start the week. Goalies are a premium with 16 teams, so vote with this consideration in mind.
With today's NHL, backup goalies typically get at least 1 game per week; however, some do get far less. If you don't think a minimum of 3 starts per week is an issue, consider that 5 categories out of 15 total for goalies may be too many.

Think about it. There are 16 teams in our league and 30 in the whole NHL, guaranteeing that atleast 2 teams will be left with only 1 starter, but I'm sure there will be more like 5 or 6. Three goalie starts is a fucking lot in one week and since we only have 1 starting goalie position along with 16 teams, I think we keep it at 2.

I'm with Lucas on this. 3 starts in a week is a lot. Also, who's had discussions, why is this an issue, aren't saves a key component of what a Goalie does? We've already decided to change stat cats without a vote (SOG's) which sure we all start from the same field but I know that completely changes the value I have on guys. As an example, I would never have made that trade with Lee earlier this summer for Quick if I knew SOG's were a stat category or were even in discussions and now we're talking about dropping a Goalie Stat. Like any other change, it goes to the masses but I gotta be honest, if we're going to start changing stat categories, etc then we should just dump all the guys in a pool and redraft and if that doesn't work for everyone that's fine. I love my team but I have zero issue with a redraft. If we're going to change the league and the cats, etc then lets change it.

I really did not expect everything to remain static between the 2 leagues, so yes, over time, we'll see some changes.
As far as 3 starts a week, yes it is a concern with me too; however, most teams usually do have 3 games a week, and you have to figure your number 1 goalie will get 2 of those starts. That leaves 1 start to be made up by your backup. I can see this being difficult for some teams because you often may have your goalies playing on the same night.
This is why I'm putting this to a vote, so that we can get it right.
The rules I wrote up are definitely open to change. They are not cast in stone at all. I fully intend to place a vote for all these proposed changes and then figure out when is it best to implement them.
The new guys in the league should also have a say in what is being done here going forward. Since we're just getting started here, albeit with a good portion of our other league intact, we have to figure out what is now in the best interests of the league.

Guys, not to be the sourpuss:) Is anyone else thinking we have time, lets have a vote on the 14-16 Categories we want and just redraft? Just a thought

Just a thought...
Why don't we have 2 starting goalie positions? It would be much easier to reach 3 goalie appearances if you could play 2 in one night.
We could keep the roster size the same. Commish could easily switch 1 bench position for 1 more goalie slot.
I voted to keep saves. I'm a stats geek.

True, adding another starting goalie position would give you an opportunity to start 2 goalies per night; however, with a 16 team league and only 30 NHL teams, some teams will not be able to even have 2 starters. There are already 9 teams here that have at least 2 starters now, so I don't think this will work out all that well. If you consider that some GMs would probably want 3 starters in this scenario, the already rather thin pool of goalie talent becomes rather untenable imo. All that being said, I'll put into place whatever you guys collectively decide upon.

I agree with Steve, I don't think we can add a 2nd starting goalie spot because we already have teams drafted and some of the teams have 3 different goalies.

My vote is keep the one goalie position, and leave the goalie stats the same.
My vote is also for no minimums for G starts with only one Goalie on the roster.

I think we have to have a minimum of 2. Say you have a goalie playing on Monday and he gets a shutout, then you can just bench your goalies for the rest of the week and take the automatic 4 points from winning GAA and SV% so in that respect I think we should keep it at 2

Exactly, we go to the 5 goalie cats like we have in the IFHL with a minimum of 2 starts per week for the goalie stats.

My pick would be to drop saves but keep it at 2 starts.

Well the GMs have spoken. By a majority vote of 9-5, in the goalie categories, we will be keeping Saves and a minimum of 2 goalie starts per week.
The official rules have been updated both here on Proboards and on the Yahoo GMHL web page.
