Jason, instead of slinging around unfounded accusations, why don't you concentrate on the facts of what has actually transpired here instead of attempting to flog whatever misconstrued version of reality your overworked imagination has concocted.
I originally proposed a vote on expansion on July 15, 2014. Glenn and I have long believed that a 16 team league was something to actively strive for; however, the vote for expansion was defeated by the GMs in the league at that time.
The next time there was any mention of expansion was when Ryan brought it up this spring on April 22nd. Glenn and I talked about expansion on YIM at that time but did not follow up any further at that point as neither one of us thought the idea of expansion would actually find enough traction to be put into place.
During a conversation Glenn and I had on YIM on July 9th, the topic of expansion came up. We talked about what we may want to see. Overnight, I thought about it a lot and I told Glenn my ideas on July 10th. I put a draft proposal to paper and sent Glenn an e-mail outlining my thoughts. The e-mail I sent out league wide on July 11th was based almost entirely on my thoughts over the past couple of days.
Expansion has never been more than a very occasional thought as we both believed it would be a hard sell to the GMs in this league. Quite frankly I had better things to do than try to plot how I can make expansion a reality in the GMHL. It was only our conversation on July 9th and 10th where I actually thought expansion was doable in this league.
My big mistake here was trying to cram my plans for expansion down everyone's throat without a vote and obviously without the respect all GMs in this league undoubtedly should have been shown. For that I am truly sorry and I do apologize as you all deserve better from me.
I convinced myself through faulty logic that since nobody called for a vote when we contracted then I should be able to do the same thing in reverse when I wanted the league to go through an expansion of two teams. Needless to say, I was 100% wrong in how I handled this matter and if I could take back how I proposed expansion, I certainly would.
When we initially dispersed the assets of the two teams we folded, it was in the best interest of the league to do so. I didn't really want to contract, but there was little choice as both teams were in bad shape and virtually had no chance of being very competitive for many, many years. No GM in their right mind would want to enter a pay league and just give away $25 annually for years on end and so contraction became the only reasonable fix for the GMHL.
As for planning and scheming and waiting to implement our little plan, I have no idea where that comes from at all. You've taken the facts as you see them and twisted them around to fit what is little more than a conspiracy theory. Once again you have launched another attack on a member of the GMHL without rhyme or reason or any thought to the consequences of your actions.
The trade I made with Charles involved me acquiring Vasilevskiy, Trouba and Etem for Datsyuk and Emelin. Anyone that knows me knows that I am extremely high on Vasilevskiy as I expect him to become an elite goaltender. As a matter of fact, I own him in 3 of the 4 keeper leagues I'm in and I'd love to have him in the 4th league too. As an owner of Vasilevskiy, he is pretty much untouchable on any of my teams so acquiring him from Charles was very high on my to do list and had absolutely nothing to do with any possible expansion.
How this relatively minor trade can be seen as an attempt to take advantage of a change I've planned all along is preposterous. When Charles stated that he wouldn't have made any trades involving goalies if he knew the league was going through expansion, I interpreted that to be mostly centred around his acquisition of Miller and Lack and not so much around the Vasilevskiy trade. I would think my conclusion here was a fair assessment, but I do concede it could be totally wrong too. Your conclusions that this was part of my master plan is ludicrous and far-fetched at best.
Now if I did have questionable integrity, which is really only a nice way of putting it considering the manner in which you presented your inflammatory remarks, the trade I would've done before expanding and dropping a goalie position would've been to trade Rinne for a 1st line stud forward and not just acquiring Vasilevskiy.
I can't help but wonder Jason if you actually read over what you write before you post something and that you actually consider if what you say actually has any merit to it. Are posts such as this actually based on something other than your wild imagination? Is your accusation based on something resembling a logical conclusion of the facts? Does whatever conclusion you've actually come up with really make any sense? Please take these as rhetorical questions as I've already drawn my conclusions from what you accuse me of doing here.
Now let's talk a little bit about what you've meant to the league Jason. I'd say your a fairly knowledgeable GM who is indeed interested in trying to field his best team at all times.
That being said, we've had more than a few incidents with you where you've pissed off different GMs in both this league and the BITW, usually as a direct result of you publicly attacking another GM over something they have done, which you haven't agreed with.
On a number of occasions, a few people, myself included, have asked you to tone it down a bit and provide some tangible constructive criticism instead of blowing things way out of proportion, but for whatever reason, you don't seem too interested in heeding anyone's sage advice as these incidents keep happening with increasing frequency.
Last year, shortly after joining this league, you got into it with Anthony so much that I had to ask you both to keep it civil and to air your so-called dirty laundry offline. In more than one conversation we had shortly after that blow up, you strongly recommended that I kick Anthony out of the league entirely.
I stated emphatically that there was no grounds for asking Anthony to resign from the league. Anthony may be opinionated, brusk and perhaps more than a little blunt sometimes, but he is a valued member of this league who wasn't going anywhere. In fact I told you I really like having personalities like Anthony's in this league because if we all do the same thing and act the same way, it quickly becomes a stale, boring league. In other words, having strong personalities was a desired trait for the league.
I don't know if I remember it correctly or not, but it seems like you may have gotten into it, so to speak, with Lou as well. You definitely had a major blow up with Stu not that long ago and for anybody in the BITW, we've more than “enjoyed” (read that as extremely sarcastic) your numerous character assassinations there.
If you were an active member of some of the hockey sites that I frequent, I am sure there would be more than a few complaints about the manner in which you conduct yourself, so much so, that most moderators of these sites would likely conclude that your actions and views can only be symptomatic of someone who is usually characterized as an internet troll.
You seem to enjoy slagging other GMs if you don't like how they manage their team. You frequently bait other GMs and seemingly try to elicit a negative response from them by making snide remarks that do nothing more than foster hard feelings all around.
If you have any proof of what you claim I've done inappropriately, I'd like to see it. Spouting off and saying whatever you convinced yourself of, without anything to back it up, is nothing more than character assassination, is totally uncalled for and quite frankly unacceptable. In other words, perhaps you should put up some proof here of how my behaviour has lacked integrity. Offering up your twisted interpretation is hardly proof of anything at all.
Am I guilty of not consulting the GMs in this league regarding expansion – yes. Other than that, either you put up or shut up.
Since I am putting it out there, do know that Glenn and I did talk about some of the shit storms you started since you've been with us. Do know that to this point we've always given you a pass on your transgressions.
Jason, I cannot condone such behaviour. Spouting off like you have been doing lately is totally uncalled for and unacceptable. No one should have to be on the receiving end of such unwarranted accusations and no one should have to put up with your theatrics.
Based on your latest incident in the BITW, and just so you know, over the past couple of days, Glenn and I were actively looking at replacing you here in the GMHL as we both think your behaviour is cancerous and it would only be a matter of time before you falsely accused another member of our league. I actually did think we had a replacement lined up, but it fell through.
I've also had a conversation with Lucas over this BITW affair and I said to him in no uncertain terms that your comments, name calling and your fights with other GMs over how they manage their teams was way over the line. I mentioned the same to Glenn and told Glenn that if it was my league, you would have been asked to leave.
I really don't know where this is coming from Jason. Yes, my team is somewhat stacked and I should be very competitive in this league for quite some time. I think mostly I've managed to be rather fortunate in how some of my trades and acquisitions have worked out, but I also worked hard to get my team to where it is currently.
Part of me thinks that perhaps you see what you wrote as a means to get us to do a full redraft of this league. This is not something that will be entertained at this time. If anything, some of us, Lucas and Glenn included (and Lee and Mark from the BITW) have talked about forming a new league with whom we feel are the best GMs out there.
I'm lukewarm to that proposal because I really like what we've accomplished as a league together in the GMHL and I don't want to jeopardize what we've built here. Luckily for you, your unwanted comments, constant bickering and continuous attacks on other GMs automatically precludes you from any consideration whatsoever in joining a league such as this.
So here I am now Jason, faced with a bit of a conundrum. My problem as I see it is now you've stepped way out of line big time once again, except this time, you're slagging my integrity and actions. Whatever I say and do may also be construed the wrong way so I'll leave this next step up to you.
I think by carefully reading my comments here you can easily read between the lines on what Glenn and I think is in the best interest of the GMHL and what we think you really should be doing here.
Please do take the not-so-subtle hint and do the right thing. Here's another hint – what song do the fans in Montreal sing to opposing teams near the end of games that Montreal is about to win?
From everything I've seen lately from you here in the GMHL, in the BITW and from what Glenn has shared with me on YIM, I find it rather difficult to believe that the GMHL is really the right fit for you after all.
Lastly you should know that I am not really interested in any rebuttal you may have here. I am only interested in what I believe to be is in the best interests of our league. Thanks for your time.
For anyone else having read his long, I am sorry for this rather long rant and I do apologize in advance for all you've had to put up with lately in the GMHL. Please have faith, as I will certainly strive to do much better for all of you and the GMHL.
