I also believe the Norris is a much tougher division. That's just upon first look for me though.

What about maybe playing each team in your division 2x, each team in other division 1x, and if i'm correct with math/weeks played that would leave 3 more games to set up rivalry weeks(2 in division + 1 inter-division maybe??)... Just a thought...

I think 3 or 4 smaller divisions would help create rivalries. I realize the numbers aren't ideal for this option but I don't think it's a big deal if one division is short one team. Would 3 divisions(5/5/4) or 4 divisions(4/4/3/3) interest anyone? My thinking is that competing in a smaller division would create rivalries simply because you'd have less teams to scoreboard watch. As it is now I couldn't name all 6 of my division rivals.
As for payouts, only thought I have is we should try to have (as much as possible) a balanced schedule. I think it's the best way to see who has the best team and fairest way to determine rankings for payouts.
With that said, I'm ok with whatever you guys decide for payouts and divisions.

Yea if you go to smaller divisions, then you would definitely need a more balanced schedule. I'm also good with whatever is decided. Smaller divisions also means different payouts. We have all summer to come up with something though and whatever is decided, i'm sure will be great.

I appreciate all the input guys, but with a 14 team league and 22 weeks in a typical season, I don't see how we can have a balanced schedule. As for balancing the divisions so that both are more approximately balanced, I have no problem with that either, but I really don't want to be doing this every season.
One thing to keep in mind is that it is an absolute bitch to try and figure out an unbalanced schedule and if you add more parameters, it becomes even more difficult.
We could just let Yahoo choose this for us and the schedule you get is the schedule you get. I don't know how Yahoo decides who you play in the schedule, be it just done randomly or by the order in which the teams accepted their invites. If we let Yahoo select the schedule for us, you will play every one in the league once and then restart again from the first week. This would leave 9 teams you face twice and 4 teams you face once in a typical season.

I personally like that way best Steve that way everyone plays everyone and its more balanced. I also think keeping only 2 divisions is best or even just going to one division. If we keep the two divisions moving myself and Lee into your and Glenn's division would be best to even it up imo.

I've tried customizing a schedule in the league that I run. Long story short...ended up using Yahoo's random schedule and my computer landed in my neighbors backyard. Customizing yahoo schedules can be extremely frustrating. I have no problem with yahoo deciding.

Glenn and I batted your ideas around for a bit this afternoon and we've decided that we are not going to have any divisions whatsoever, so it is easy to determine the 1st through 5th prizes.
As stated earlier, it is nigh on impossible to devise a balanced schedule with 14 teams, so we'll let Yahoo generate the random schedule at the beginning of the season. Everyone will play 9 teams twice and 4 teams once in a typical 22 week season.
If you have any comments regarding these changes, please post them.

Batted around was to put it mildly. The outcome we devised basically puts all concerns together and comes to a consensus that's drawn out as evenly as possible divisionally and the payout is better suited under this format. 2/3 will be divided for the regular season (22 weeks) and the remaining 1/3 toward the playoffs (4 weeks). I'm sure I speak for Steve as well when I thank you for tabling these concerns. Without yer input we're just running around sending out random thoughts on how we can best improve YOUR league. You put the GM in GMHL brothers. Thanks for your time.
That's as serious I can be for one day... Now back to league banter instigation for me.

Here's my .02 cents I would much prefer a nice trophy vs. cash for the team that wins the league championship. I don't feel we need to spread the cash to all 6 teams based are the standings. I would give a nice trophy to the league champion and a trophy to the most points in the regular season (Presidents Trophy) In addition those teams would own no league fee for the following year. Just my thoughts....
