As the vote stands now, the eligibility for keeping goalies on the farm will increase from 50 or less games played to 75 or less game played. The co-commissioners had decided that since implementation of this rule change would only favour a very few GMs, it was an unfair advantage for them over the rest of the GMs in the league; therefore, the proposed change, if carried, should only be implemented for the 2021-22 season.
It was pointed out that in previous votes we had always implemented a rule change for the upcoming season and some GMs wanted to know why we were changing it now. That is a fair question. The reason is - some time ago we decided that we have to be careful when we implement a rule change to ensure that some GMs didn't gain an advantage over the rest of the GMs. In this case, 4 GMs gained an advantage, so we thought it was in the best interest of the league to lessen the advantage and push out the rule change for another year, that being the 2021-22 season.
It was then pointed out that all that really does is give the advantage to other GMs, myself included, one year further out. After much discussion, Mike, Ryan and I decided that we would put this to a vote, which had been suggested in our conversations with other GMs.
So, a simple majority of votes cast will decide when the farm goalie games played will be increased. I encourage all GMs to vote on this poll.
