I posted the following on WhatsApp:
Gentlemen, I was asked by another GM to look into how Andrew was managing his lineup over the past little while. Upon looking at the Whitby lineup over the past few weeks, it was obvious that Andrew should have done a better job setting his daily lineup. I asked Andrew about it, and based on our conversation and the circumstances he told me about, I'm satisfied that Andrew will ensure that he sets his future lineups as our rules clearly say each and everyone of us should.
Most of us have been in this league for quite a few years and I think we've all enjoyed the competition here. I've mostly kept a hands off approach, but this season, there have been at least two other teams that, like Andrew, haven't done enough, in my opinion, to set the best lineup they should have. We have rules in place that say a team that tanks will not participate in the draft lottery and may lose their 1st round pick. After talking this over with Mike C and Ryan, we decided that on this one occasion only, that we would warn everyone that they need to set their best lineup every day.
We understand that many of you are busy, there are life events that you're faced with that take you away from as much time as you would like from fantasy hockey and sometimes it is just hard to stay engaged. That being said, it only takes few minutes on a Sunday to set your lineup for the entire week. All you have to do is select "Start Active Players" and then choose start on the screen that pops up. Surely everyone can at least do this every week.
The other two teams that we noticed that could be doing a better job at setting their lineups is Milwaukee and Edmonton. Going forward I expect Lucas, Adam, Andrew and everyone else to set their lineups daily. If you want to sit out your goalies near the end of the week because you've already sewn up those categories, then that is obviously a valid strategy to employ.
This is the one and only time that we won't take action if we see a GM not setting his lineup as he should. If any of us see it, the GM will get a warning and told that next time he'll be out of the draft lottery. If it continues, then the GM risks losing the best 1st round pick he has and possibly being asked to leave the league.
As it stands now, I haven't done a good enough job monitoring to make sure that teams are setting their lineups - that's on me. Mike and Ryan agreed that the best approach was to let everyone know that we expect their lineup to be set every day.
